Spitzemberg Pass in the Vosges

Cols des Vosges - ferme et col du spitzemberg
Vosges Passes – Spitzemberg pass and farm, between Spitzemberg and Ormont mounts.

Another World War One postcard. Interesting to see the infantry column walking through the Vosges mountains on the picture. Most World War One postcards that I own rarely name the exact location of where the picture was taken when it shows soldiers. One has to assume that this postcard was published well after the facts. Actually, the uniforms seem to be the infamous red and blue uniforms that the French army wore at the very beginning of the war. Infamous, because totally not adapted to modern warfare (they were 19th century design) and one of the main causes for the French army early defeats.
