Incles Valley

Despite not having been to Andorra in many years, I had been so often in the 80’s and 90’s that I thought I knew most of what is not to be missed in the country.

After all it is a small country.

Well, I was wrong…

As our small two-day trip in Andorra  was coming to an end and as we were about to return home in France, I discovered a new place that has instantly become my favorite spot in Andorra. This is Incles Valley.

It is a small valley in the north-eastern part of the country, right next to France, although you need to be a good hiker to reach France from there.

And it is one of the cutest valleys I have seen.

It is sparkled with a few houses here and there, but apart from that nature is everywhere and pretty much unspoiled except for a path or a fence here and there. Most of the houses are quite old but have recently been renovated. Not many people seem to live there¬†permanently, most houses are apparently vacation houses, and I have to admit that while I’ve never really been a “mountain person” I wouldn’t mind at all owning a vacation house in Incles Valley (although something’s telling me that I can’t afford one).

At the end of the small road, there are a few hiking trails that lead to the end of the valley where two lakes are located. We didn’t go, we were not equipped for hiking.

Definitely a place I look forward going back to one of these days, even if I don’t know when I’ll be able to return to Andorra.

In the meantime you are more than advised to give it a try yourself. To get there is pretty easy. If you’re coming from France, Incles if off the first road on the right after Soldeu. If you’re coming from Andorra-la-Vella, it’s the road on the left right after El Tarter (and obviously right before Soldeu). As we’re talking about very small villages here (just a handful of houses really) you have to be careful not to miss them, but signs are pretty clear.

As usual, I’ll leave you with a few pictures and a video. As this is the first video I post on this blog, I have to warn you, I’m no better at video than I am at taking pictures and my camcorder is a cheap and simple model, so don’t expect anything fancy, just a few images that can give you a better idea of how the place is like.
