Some time in the next few days (today? tomorrow? Tuesday? not sure, it’ll depend on the weather 😉 ) David+World will look somewhat different.
I will change the blog’s theme.
While I still like Suffusion (the theme that’s been with the blog since its beginning) a lot, and I will most likely keep it a little longer on some of my other blogs, I’m gradually phasing it out. There are two reasons for that.
First, it hasn’t received any updates in a very long time (more than a year?) and I’m afraid his author has abandoned it (even the support forum is now run by other people). It’s never good to have a theme that is not kept up to date with the latest WordPress changes; bugs will happen, security issues could arise.
The second reason is that more and more of you are reading this blog on your mobile device. And while, I’d rather you read it on a large screen, and I’m not a big fan of reading anything on a mobile (on a tablet, yes, but reading a blog and looking at pictures on a 4 or 5 inches screen how do you guys enjoy that?), I know I’m fighting a losing battle here, so it’s important for my blog to have a responsive design, and while Suffusion sort of has, but I don’t like the way it works much, the result is not always too great.
So, the new theme will be called Hueman.
I’ve been using it on Setouchi Explorer (my Japan blog) for a few weeks now, and I’m pretty happy with it. You can check what it looks like there.
Other things that will change are the title and logo. I have never been too happy with them. I created them quite quickly when I started the blog and they were supposed to be temporary, except that they’ve been around for as long as the blog has.
As my photoshop skills are pretty weak, I’m pretty limited with what I can do in terms of graphism.
However, here is what they should look like, I’m just not completely set on the color yet:
While, I’ve almost decided which one it will be, if you have a very strong opinion about one or several of them, please do not hesitate to share it in the comment section.
And if things get weird during the next few days (I’ll also try different color schemes, move some widgets around and so on) don’t worry, it should all look normal by Wednesday (the new normal).
